SASKATOON – A night full of hockey and howling was a huge success despite the Blades defeat as the first-ever Critters Pucks ‘N Paws Night at the Credit Union Centre (CUC) on Friday night.

In celebration of two decades in Saskatoon, the Critters’ event went off without a hitch as the Saskatoon Blades hosted the Kootenay Ice.

Hockey fans were encouraged to bring their dogs and cats to CUC, allowing their pets to check out some Western Hockey League (WHL) action.

Around 158 dogs and even a pet pig took part in the event.

There were a number of displays on the go throughout the game, including local mascots, prizes and presentations to help celebrate the big night.

Approximately 4,517 people showed up for the game.

Five dollars from pet owners’ tickets will go to local pet charities.

The Saskatoon SPCA was on hand to ensure it was a safe and clean environment in the designated area, while the referees took care of the ice surface.

The Blades play at 7 p.m. on Saturday for First Nations Night against the Brandon Wheat Kings.
